Frequently Asked Questions
What size medicine cabinet do I need?
Max2026-06-10T09:24:53-04:00The right size depends on your vanity width and available wall space. As a general rule, your cabinet should be no wider than your sink vanity — and ideally match it closely. Common widths range from 15" to 72".
Measure the space between any obstructions (light fixtures, outlets, walls), then choose the largest size that fits comfortably. A wider cabinet gives more storage and a more balanced look over a double-sink vanity.
At what height should a medicine cabinet be installed?
Max2026-06-10T09:25:02-04:00The standard installation height positions the center of the cabinet mirror at approximately eye level — typically 60" to 65" (152–165 cm) from the finished floor. For most adults, this means the top of the cabinet sits around 72" from the floor.
If multiple people of different heights share the same bathroom, aim for a 63" center height as a comfortable middle ground. For recessed installation, confirm stud spacing and any in-wall obstructions before cutting. See the full step-by-step guide below.
What are the standard medicine cabinet sizes?
Max2026-06-10T09:25:09-04:00Aquadom offers medicine cabinets in a full range of standard widths to fit any bathroom layout:
- 15" — compact, ideal for small bathrooms or powder rooms
- 20" and 24" — single-sink standard, the most popular sizes
- 30" and 36" — wider single-sink or compact double-sink vanities
- 40" and 48" — mid-size double vanities
- 60" and 72" — large double-sink or master bath vanities
All cabinets are available for surface mount or recessed installation.
Surface mount vs. recessed — which is right for me?
Max2026-06-10T09:25:16-04:00Surface mount attaches directly to the wall — no cutting required, easier to install, works on any wall type including tile. The cabinet protrudes 4–6" from the wall surface.
Recessed mount sits flush inside the wall for a sleek, built-in look. It requires cutting an opening between studs (typically 16" apart) and is not suitable for walls with plumbing, electrical, or insulation in the cavity. Recessed cabinets are the preferred choice in a renovation or new build.
Do Aquadom cabinets require an electrician to install?
Max2026-04-14T10:28:48-04:00Most Aquadom LED medicine cabinets plug into a standard 110V outlet using the included power cord. If there is an existing outlet behind your mirror, no electrician is needed.
If you prefer a hardwired installation with no visible cord, we recommend hiring a licensed electrician to add an outlet inside the wall cavity. Local building codes in some states require a permit for new electrical work — check with your municipality before starting.

What is a defogger and do I need one?
Max2026-06-10T09:23:02-04:00A defogger is a thin heating element behind the mirror glass that gently warms the surface, preventing condensation from forming during and after a shower. If your bathroom tends to get steamy, a built-in medicine cabinet with a defogger means you'll always have a clear mirror — no wiping, no waiting.
